Memorial Day Weekend at Hyatt Regency Hill Country: Family Fun, Globalist Perks & San Antonio Adventures

When you’re traveling with kids and multiple families, finding a resort that checks all the boxes — comfort, activities, convenience, and a little luxury — can feel like searching for a unicorn. But after spending three nights over Memorial Day weekend at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, I can confidently say we found that unicorn.

Our trip brought together three families — a combination of adults and energetic kids of various ages — for a holiday weekend getaway that turned out to be the perfect blend of fun, relaxation, and just a little Texas adventure. Add in Hyatt Globalist benefits, and it felt like we were treated like VIPs from check-in to checkout.

Memorial Day Weekend at Hyatt Regency Hill Country

Here’s a full breakdown of our experience, what we loved, and tips for making the most of your stay.

Booking the Stay: Globalist Benefits That Truly Shine

As a Hyatt Globalist, this trip was a great example of how valuable status can be:

  •  Upgraded to the Hill Country Suite
  • Complimentary breakfast for the entire family
  • Free valet or self-parking
  • Waived resort fees

We used a Guest of Honor award for one of the other families traveling with us, and they received identical benefits. Hyatt really nails consistency in elite service.

A Festive Memorial Day Weekend Atmosphere

The resort was buzzing with activity over the long weekend but never felt overcrowded. There were red, white, and blue touches across the property, and the festive energy made everything feel a bit more special. Staff went out of their way to create a holiday atmosphere that was both celebratory and family-friendly.

Resort Overview: Rustic Luxury Meets Texas Charm

Set on 300 acres of rolling Texas Hill Country, the Hyatt Regency Hill Country blends old-ranch charm with modern resort amenities. Think: towering oak trees, wide-open green space, and warm Texas hospitality.

Despite being just 20 minutes from downtown San Antonio, it felt like we were worlds away from the city.

Our Suite: Spacious and Kid-Friendly

Because of my Globalist benefit, we were upgraded to the Hill Country Suite, which gave us:

  • A separate bedroom with a king bed
  • A living area with a pull-out sofa
  • Two TVs (key for parents and kids needing separate downtime)
  • A dining table for in-room snacks and card games
  • A balcony to enjoy morning coffee and evening wine

The suite setup made managing naps, early bedtimes, and downtime with kids so much easier — a real bonus for families.

Water Park & Kids Activities: Hours of Fun for All Ages

This resort is a dream for kids (and parents looking to keep them busy!). The highlight for our kids was definitely the 5-acre water park area, which includes:

  • A lazy river that winds under shady trees
  • A waterslide that the kids raced down dozens of times
  • A massive family pool for splashing around

Daily Programming

The resort staff went above and beyond with holiday weekend activities. Some highlights included:

  • A special visit from Zoomagination, where the kids (and me) got to meet a real sloth up close — unforgettable!
  • Pool noodle field hockey, a unique twist on a classic game that had all the kids laughing and playing hard
  • A daily visit from an ice cream truck, which was a perfect cool-down treat in the Texas sun
  • Every night ended with complimentary s’mores around the fire pits — simple but magical for families

Our kids never once said “I’m bored,” which is basically the gold standard for a successful family trip.

Pro Tip: Check the daily activity board in the lobby near the desk — there’s something new every day, especially on holiday weekends!

The Texas Pool: Peace and Quiet for Adults

While the kids ran wild, the adults enjoyed peace and quiet at the Texas Pool, a serene, adults-only oasis. With comfy loungers, shaded seating, and poolside cocktail service, it was our favorite spot for midday relaxation.

My favorite cocktail was the Skinny Coconut Mojito.  It was not cheap at $17, but very refreshing and delicious.

Dining at the Resort: Delicious & Convenient

Globalist Breakfast at Springhouse Café

Our included breakfast each morning was a standout. The buffet offered:

  • Fresh fruit, yogurt, and pastries
  • Made-to-order omelets
  • Carnitas breakfast tacos and local flair
  • Kid-friendly options like French toast, pancakes, mini waffles and donuts

Other Dining Options

  • Papa Ed’s Pool Bar: Great for casual bites like burgers, tacos, and salads while you’re hanging by the pool.  My kids enjoyed the cheeseburger, hot dog, and chocolate chip cookie.  All of the kids with us enjoyed the endless supply of watermelon.
  • Charlie’s Long Bar: An onsite bar with a Texas roadhouse vibe — fun for late-night drinks or watching a game. While I did not try the cocktail, they have an old-fashioned on the menu that’s made with tequila.  A little too adventurous for me, I had a few Charley’s Old Fashions instead.  We also ordered the giant soft pretzel with cheese and mustard, and my son just had to have an Uncrustable.
  • Vince’s Watering Hole: Poolside snack shack with drinks, frozen treats, and kid-friendly options.

If you want more variety, downtown San Antonio and nearby restaurants are just a short drive away.  Another option is to have Uber Eats or Grubhub delivered to the hotel.  We did this for lunch on Saturday, and although the pool has signs that say no outside food is allowed, no one said anything to us.

A Night in Downtown San Antonio: The Alamo & Mi Tierra

One evening, we decided to venture off-property to experience some of San Antonio’s rich history and culture. It was just a 20-minute drive to downtown San Antonio, where we walked around the historic Alamo grounds. It was a great educational moment for the kids and a chance to experience a piece of Texas history firsthand.

Afterward, we had dinner at Mi Tierra Café y Panadería, a colorful, iconic Mexican restaurant in Market Square that’s open 24/7. The food was good, the atmosphere festive, and the bakery case was impossible to resist. If you’re staying at the Hill Country Resort, this little detour into the city is well worth your time.

Tips for Families Visiting Hyatt Hill Country

  • 💧 Bring reusable water bottles – fill stations are located around the resort and the ice machines also have a water spout
  • 🧴 Pack sunscreen and water shoes – the Texas sun is no joke! My kids enjoyed the challenge of going backwards in the lazy river and then complained about their feet hurting.
  • 🕶️ Get to the pool early for the best lounge chairs.  While the pool doesn’t open until 8am, half the chairs were already claimed at 8am.
  • 🧼 Keep track of pool towels – you will be charged $15 for each towel you don’t return.
  • 🗺️ Don’t skip the resort activity board – daily surprises like crafts, scavenger hunts, and games

Final Thoughts: Would I Return?

Absolutely, without hesitation. The Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort exceeded our expectations in every way. From the incredible Globalist treatment to the festive Memorial Day activities and relaxing Texas ambiance, it was the kind of vacation that gave us both joy and rest — a rare combination when traveling with kids.

Whether you’re a Hyatt Globalist looking for a property where your status truly delivers, or a family in search of a destination that caters to all ages, this resort checks every box.

We’re already talking about making this an annual tradition — and with everything the resort offers, it’s easy to see why.
